Cold Air Looks to Stick Around; Now We Need a Storm

Cold weather looks like it is finally here to stay. We should stay well below normal from now through at the least mid-December. That being said, the weather pattern looks to be changing as well. Storms will start to gain moisture and head up the coast. When you put 2 and 2 together, our future looks bright for snow. We may see some minor snow this week, but nothing to fret about. I do not know when the snow will come, but the point is it's going to be very cold and any moisture will be snow in the early December time period. There is quite a large snowstorm showing up on the GFS model for Wednesday night (12/3) through Thursday (12/4). As of now the 5400 line or rain/snow line extends all the way down into southern Texas into Mexico and even into Louisiana. That is VERY COLD AIR!!! This does not mean that this will hold true, but there should be cold air. If you ask for snow amounts right now I'd call you crazy, but there are ways it can be done using some simple math. If the models were to be 100% correct currently, than the storm would drop somewhere between 8.2-11.475" of snow.

Month of November Predictions

Days 1-15---The month will start off fairly mild and wet. We will see a decent amount of rainfall within the next few weeks. This week looks especially promising as it could rain Tuesday through Thursday. We will deal with a few more rain storms mid-month. The Baltimore area should stay close to or above average in terms of temperature until the start of next week, around the 9th or 10th. We may see another warm day or two a few days after that, but the point is come the 20th or so; We will start to see much cooler weather. The temperatures will go from 63/49 to 51/32. I believe we will start to see 40's being highs toward the end of the month. I also believe that we will have to discuss the possibility of snow in the latter part of this month, especially into December.

Almanac Predicts Very Snowy/Cold Winter For East

The 2009 Farmer's Almanac predicts a very harsh winter for the East coast. We are expected to see much more snow than normal and much more cold air than normal. Here is the official prediction from www.almanac.com .

Despite a mild November, this winter will be colder and snowier than normal, with near or above-normal precipitation. The coldest temperatures will occur in mid-December, early January, and early February. The snowiest periods will be in early and mid-December, early January, early and late February, and early March.
